BIRCHES

Kathleen P. Decker

swaying birches

for the most part

unbroken

white bark greyed

by fog

peeling, peeled

battered by high winds

and hail

forest turned ominous

and then

the blessed sun Art quilt by Kathleen P. Decker

beaming

their bark shines

with golden hues

that reflect the light

onto the floor below

animals peek

from storm-hides

forest turned bright
