swaying birches

for the most part

unbroken

white bark greyed

by fog

peeling, peeled

battered by high winds

and hail

forest turned ominous


and then

beaming

their bark shines

with golden hues



that reflect the light

onto the floor below

animals peek

from storm-hides

forest turned bright
